Stone Bridges Through Time – The official Zagori Mountain Running 2025 poster

Stone Bridges Through Time

Running where necessity once walked, leaving behind a trail of history.

Since the 17th century, when Zagori thrived as a crossroads of trade and communication, people learned to tame the rugged terrain in a deeply human and perfectly harmonious way: with stone. They built bridges over rushing rivers and connected trails to remote villages and communities, allowing people, ideas, and goods to travel freely.

Today, 93 out of Zagori’s 180 stone bridges — like Kokkoros, Kalogeriko, Missios, Kapetan Arkoudas and so many others — still stand proudly, rooted in the land that gave them life. They open paths to breathtaking views, to the mountain tops, and to our innermost self. They stand as symbols of unity, cooperation, and solidarity.

The 14th Zagori Mountain Running proudly dedicates this year’s identity to these timeless architectural gems. Here, the runner doesn’t just follow a route; they trace the very memory of the land. They step on stones laid centuries ago, crossing passages that once kept communities connected through hardship, distance, and harsh winters.

The path we run this year was once the only way to reach a doctor, the market, or simply life itself. Today, it becomes a passage into ourselves, our history, and a deeper bond with nature.

This year’s event poster, inspired by the architectural wisdom of these masterpieces, is an ode to human perseverance and our innate need for connection. Because every bridge unites. And every path it opens elevates — body, soul, and vision.

This year, we run on the stones that once connected villages and people.
We become part of Zagori’s story and of our free, unbounded selves.
